APTA Youth Summit
This June, APTA is hosting a youth summit -- “Teening” Up for a Greener World. The summit will bring together a diverse group of high school students to help them better understand the connection between transit and the environment and how transit benefits communities.
We need your help spreading the word about the summit as we try to attract the best and the brightest rising junior and senior high school students to Washington, DC this June.
We encourage you to work with your local schools to let them know about the summit.

Burrell High School/Penn State New Kensington Dual Enrollment
Program
Burrell High School in partnership with Penn State New
Kensington enables qualified Seniors to access college credits
while still in high school. Students may register for 3 or 6
credits in either or both the Fall or Spring semesters of the
2008-2009 school year.
Based on resources available from the Pennsylvania Department of
Education, students may receive reimbursement for costs
associated with their dual enrollment. All students enrolled in
the Dual Enrollment program are eligible for a 50% tuition
discount from Penn State. Dual Enrollment is open to any Senior
who resides in Lower Burrell and is enrolled at Burrell High
School, a charter school, a private school, a non public school
or a home education program.
Students who meet all of the following criteria are qualified to
participate in the Dual Enrollment program:
1) The student is a Senior.
2) The student is making satisfactory progress toward fulfilling
applicable secondary school graduation requirements.
3) The student has scored at least Proficient on the PSSA exam
or 900 on the SAT combined Critical Reading and Math score or
has a 3.0 in the intended subject area of study.
4) The student demonstrates readiness for college-level
coursework in the intended subject area of study, as determined
by Penn State. Penn State will determine readiness based on
application and standardized test scores.
5) Letter of recommendation from a teacher, and a letter of
approval by the principal.
Burrell High School administration will submit the Dual
Enrollment grant application on February 15, 2008. Interested
students must complete a Burrell High School Dual Enrollment
Contract and select pre-approved courses, and apply to Penn
State New Kensington prior to the February 15, 2008 deadline.

Historically black Knoxville College, in east Tennessee, has reduced its tuition from $5,000 to $1,400 per student including room, board, and books! All you need is $600 for the enrollment deposit and $800 can be paid in four monthly installments of $200 each. The program is funded by corporate sponsors and guarantees a college education where students graduate debt free. Enrollment requirements include a high school diploma and a 2.0/4.0 scale.
