The Hess Essay Question for 2008 is:
What differences do you think an African American President
or a Woman
President could make for the United States of America?
Requirements for applicants:

Middle school student of African-American, Latino, or Native American
descent and a resident of
Allegheny-Kiski
Valley
-
Plans to attend a four-year college or university
- Any
middle school student that has competed for the Hightower Early Success
Scholarship in the past and received the $500 award is not eligible
to compete in the contest again.

Complete the scholarship application including a letter of recommendation
from a teacher or guidance counselor,
the application materials must be
submitted (postmarked) by Friday, February 8, 2008!
- On
Friday, February 8, 2008, HSI
will announce the HESS Essay Question via postal mail and HSI website.
Applicants will be asked to submit a 1000 word response to the
question by Friday, February 15,
2008. (Essays
should be postmarked by this date and submitted to the HSI office.)

On Saturday, February 23,
2008, at 1:00 pm at Mt. Calvary
Missionary
Baptist
Church in New Kensington,
students will bring life to their essay through an 8-10 minute oral
presentation of their paper.
- The
winner will be announced on Monday,
February 25, 2008 and will be honored at The Clarence James Memorial
Scholarship Ceremony on Saturday,
May 10, 2008.
