History and
The Clarence James Memorial Scholarship was established by J.D. Hightower and
Associates, Inc. in memory of Clarence Graham and James Hightower, Sr.
These men, the late grandfathers of the organizations’ founding members,
were strong supporters of their grandchildren’s education.
Moreover, these patriarchs were advocates of community development and
service.
To
provide financial support for a first year African American, Hispanic, or Native
American student at an accredited four year college or university during the
2011-2012 academic school year.
To Qualify a Student
Must:
Ø
Be a
Ø
Be an African American,
Hispanic, or Native American
Ø
Be a resident of
Ø
Be a high school senior
Ø
Have a cumulative grade
point average of 3.5 at the end of the first semester of the senior year in high
school
Ø
Hold a leadership role
in a community organization or activity
Ø
An official high school
transcript. The transcript should be
mailed directly from the high school guidance counselor’s office and must be
received by the stated deadline
Ø
A recommendation from
an individual who can comment on specific details of the student’s community
service involvement.
Ø
A type-written essay.
Students must answer the question posed in the application materials.
